REVIEW – “Get all the features at half the price!”
One of the big app types when the App Store was originally opened were the document/file management apps. There have been all kinds of apps that have been developed to help you to mange and transfer content between your device and your computer. Imagam, Inc has entered into this fray with their new app called “iFiles,” that does not disappoint! I also have 1 promotional code for iFiles that I will be giving away for free as well! So if you are interested please reply to this post with your email address, and your favorite app(s). I will randomly select a winner from all of those who post a reply on or before January 11th.
Now on the to the review. One of my favorite things about this app is that it does not really have a “home screen” like a lot of apps of this type do. Instead you are taken directly to the list of all the folder’s and files that you currently have transferred to your iPhone or iPod Touch! Something that I
noticed right away in this app is that when you add new content, it is automatically sorted into its proper folder (i.e. Documents, Movies, Music, etc.)
While there are a lot of apps that offer file storage and basic viewing options there are several features that set iFiles apart from most apps of this type. One of the best features it has is how easy it is to manage files and send them to other people. Once you touch the “Edit” button in the upper right corner you will see a bunch of empty little circles on the left side. Selecting any of these circles will select the item that is next to it. Once you have all the files that you want selected you can do a variety of things with
them from “Copying” files to another location, “Emailing” a friend or even making a bunch of files one smaller “Zip” file!
Connecting to iFiles from your desktop computer is similar to how it works in other apps if you are familiar with them. There are two methods to use, the first method is to set up your iPhone/iPod Touch’s IP address as a “network drive.” This allows you to quickly and easily copy files to and from your device using Windows Explorer. The second option is to use a web browser and point it to your device’s IP address and the port number that you currently have the app set to (The default is port 8080).
Another great thing about this app is its ability to do Wifi/Bluetooth file transfers. All you need for this is another device with iFiles installed on it. You can then use either a Wifi connection ( both phones need to be on the same network) or you can use Bluetooth! This feature is extremely easy to use and it just works!
While the built in support for viewing PDF documents is not all that bad, it does seem to struggle some with larger files. Thankfully iFiles has included its own PDF reader that can be turned on or off in the settings menu. There are also several other customization options in the “Settings” menu from user authentication to keep
your data secure to the apps “Theme” and sort order.
Another cool thing about iFiles is that it allows you to create content from directly within the app. This makes it easy to transfer content from your device to your computer! It has
everything from a voice recorder, to a video camera and basic text editor all built in. You can also grab photos directly from your “Camera Roll” and import them to this app. This allows you to quickly and easily transfer your photos to other iPhones/iPod Touches or directly to your desktop!
If you have been looking for an app to manage and send files to other people from your iPhone you are going to have a hard time finding a better solution that iFiles. It’s feature set is superior to pretty much all other apps of this type, and it is the only app that I have personally tested that allows you to put groups of files in a “zip” file directly on your iPhone/iPod Touch. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and download it in the App Store today! You won’t be sorry!

The only thing iFiles doesn’t do, which an app like Documents to Go does, is actually edit a text file once you’ve imported it to the iPhone. Which means this app is only for sending or viewing files, while Documents to Go allows you to edit them too.
Worth knowing this important limitation.
I bought this app. But for the life of me I cant figure out how to do this! How do I get the files onto my iphone? Your instructions dont make sense to me. At least they are way too complicated for a non-techy. Im not a techy, but Im an avid apple fan and have been for years. I very rarely have problems figuring out how to use an application of any kind.
Would it possible for us to download the file from email and save in the folder?
