REVIEW – “Turn your iPhone into a wireless headset!”
Of all the apps I’ve reviewed recently, this one has to be one of the coolest concepts I’ve seen! Headset, by SHAPE Services, is an app that will allow you to use your iPhone as a wireless headset or headphones. All you need for it to work is a simple free desktop client and this app! This is particularly useful for things like VOIP calling, but it has a lot of other uses as well.
When you open up Headset the first thing you see is the main menu. The center of the screen is an image of headphones with a meter on each side of it to show how much signal the app is receiving from your computer. Setting up a new computer is very easy. All you have to do is touch the settings button on the right side above the headset and you’ll see a list all of the computers that are running the free server software and are on the same WiFi network. All you have to do to connect to one of them is just touch it.
One thing to note is that the way this app works is by installing another audio driver onto your computer. What this means is that you will need to set the
new driver as the default device, either for the program you are using, or just for your computer. The easiest way to do this is to use the “Sound” program in the control panel, but it can also be done by opening the “audio mixer” and setting it there, or by setting it from within the individual applications that you want to use it with.
Once I got everything set up the first thing I was anxious to test is how it worked for listening to audio from my computer. Something I do quite a lot of is listen to political commentary and/or watch television shows on the internet. Being able to listen wirelessly allows me to move around and get other things done while not missing a thing!
So I’m sure you’re anxious to hear about my experiences with this app. What I found is that this app does an excellent job of listening to music and also making phone calls. For watching video; however, the lag that this app adds to the audio is enough to make videos seem out of sync and/or choppy. Overall I
was very impressed with the performance of this app though. If your videos get too far out of sync the quickest fix is to just pause the video and then start it up again.
Another thing that could make this app extremely useful for business people is that it has the ability to record audio. This potentially means that if you use this app to make VOIP calls you could record them with this app. Recording is extremely simple, all you have to do is touch the red record button in the bottom left of the screen. If you want to record just the audio coming in and not the microphone you can touch the mic mute button on the right side as well. All recordings are saved directly to your computer making it simple to archive/access them quickly.
To sum all this up, whether you are just looking for a cheap wireless headset or a powerful business tool for making calls from your computer Headset by SHAPE Services is a good place to start! And the best part is that all of these great features are available for just $0.99 in the App Store. So what are you waiting for? Check it out today!

The delay/lag which is around 1 second is really disturbing whether it’s when trying to watch movies or chatting.
I hope they can make something about it in their newer releases.
Other than that it is a good proggy with a good price, maybe needs a bit enhancement regarding the bitrate/quality of transmitted audio if possible without degrading the speed and delay of transmitted data.
