REVIEW – “Well worth the price.”
This is a very interesting app that takes the content of a new Stephen Covey book (“Great Work, Great Career”) and puts in iPhone format. However, it’s more than just a typical book app. It has a number of very thoughtful exercises that really help you put the ideas from the book into practice. You can help identify your own strengths and the key needs of your organization (current or prospective), and then build a personal mission or ‘contribution’ statement. To help put it into practice, the app helps you identify immediate action steps you can take to begin making an immediate contribution to your organization.
Another cool feature is the “Build Your Village” one. This helps you develop a solid networking base from your existing contacts on your device or other simply other people you may want to connect with. What’s real helpful is that rather than just saying you should ‘network,’ the app suggests specific ways you can connect with the various people in your ‘village’ (ie those you want to network with) and what roles they can take for you (e.g. mentor, coach). The othe main feature is called “Find Resources” which helps you execute existing projects in your current job by finding what and who you need to accomplish your objective. This also leads to specific action items to take, which along with the other ones are all organized and prioritized in your “Action Center.”
There’re lots of very professionally done videos featuring Stephen Covey and interesting articles on career building and job seeking. Overall, it’s good to see a solid, well thought out app that adds a lot of value to your professional life. Well worth the price.
