Whether you are out in the woods camping, hiking or if you found the perfect camping spot, GPS Kit by Garafa will help you find out where you are and/or where you areheaded!  Not only will this app  do all of that but it allows you to set “waypoints” and upload those waypoints for other people to download onto their own devices.  There are all kinds of applications I can think of for this kind of functionality!

The best thing about this app is how easy it is to use.  When you open it up you will see a pop-up that asks you if you want to continue tracking your previous trip if you have opened it before.  If not you will just be taken directly to the main screen.  The main screen consists of a menu bar along the bottom, a few buttons and a display showing your current speed of movement at the top, and a map that takes up the majority of the screen in the center.

One of the strongest points of this app is how intuitive it seems.  The features are all executed in such a way as to make it feel like you are using “just another” iPhone app.  In the upper left corner of the map screen you will see a “target” icon that will pinpoint your current GPS position on the map.  Right next to that icon there is a “ruler” icon.  This is one of the best features of this app.  What it does is allow you to find out how far apart any two places on the map are.  Basically, once you have the ruler selected you can touch anywhere on the screen and it will show the distance from your current location to that point, or you can use two fingers and check the distance between any two points on the map!

Leaving a “waypoint” anywhere is as easy as double tapping the area on the map that you would like to leave it on.  Waypoints in GPS Kit allow you to save a specific spot on the map so that you can easily find it later if you need to.  If you look at the menu at the bottom of the screen one of the buttons is the “Waypoints” button.  From here you can not only view all of your saved waypoints, but you can also save your waypoints and/or upload them for other people to check out.

Another great feature of this app is the ability to save information about where you went on your previous trips.  The “Dashboard” button in the menu at the bottom of the screen will open up a screen with all kinds of information about where you are headed, how long your current trip has taken, your current speed and average pace.  If you want to view information about previous trips, save your current trip, or start a new trip all you have to do is touch the “Tracks” button on the menu at the bottom of the screen.

I could go on and review all of this apps features in more depth.  However, the bottom line is that this app has tons of things that it could be used for.  You could choose a point for everyone to meet at a certain time at the theme park, you could mark your route for a hay ride out in the field, you could even mark where you are going to head on your hike!  All of this and it includes the feature to cache maps to your device just in case you do not have internet and this app still manages to be only $9.99!  If you are a true outdoorsman, or even if you’re just looking for a good solution to finding a meeting place somewhere this is an app that you should have.  So what are you waiting for?  Download it from the App Store today!
