Review – “Fun And Simple Drum Sounds App”

Music Apps are always fun on the iPhone, if you get a few friends together and a couple of different Apps you can start your own iBand! In case you wanted to bring out the inner Rock Star Drummer in you, you should try out Drums 4 Fun, a really simple, easy to use, and fun Drum App for the iPhone.

The set up is really basic, and therefore simple to use. You have a choice of 5 Different Drum layouts, I suggest trying each because you don’t’ know which one will be the most comfortable for you and each of the different set ups have different types of drums, and some have more or less drums and cymbals. I personally liked Drum Set #2.

Addition to the set ups you can also customize the sounds the drums make themselves. To start, you have the option to change between five different drums sound sets. I don’t know much about percussion instruments so I couldn’t tell you if each is for a different genre of music, or if they offer different drums types or what, but at least you have the option.

Of course, you could always customize your set all together. There are Nine different drum types to choose from and each has about 4 different sound options to choose from, so you can really customize your own drum set completely to whatever you like. This is a great unexpected feature in a $0.99 App.

Another unexpected feature is the ability to import and play a song from your iPod music library so you can play along. While I did try this, I just completely ruined the song, but it was very amusing. I’m sure that people who have actual drumming skill could use this as a way to practice to get the timing right for any songs that they might want to play.

While I did think that the App was fun, the graphics sort of lack something to be desired. This is the curse of the $0.99 App, and a reason I always point out when I’m impressed with graphics, on this one, not so much. While they really aren’t as important as in a game, or other Apps, it would have been nice to have a bit more polish.

Secondly, there is no way for you to record your beats to share or save for later. I think that this would be a great feature so that you can work on songs or playback some fun mixtures of sounds that you put together. Hopefully the developer is thinking of adding something like this in the future updates.

As it’s only $0.99 though, I still recommend it – I think that you should try it out, get a couple of friends with other music Apps and have a fun iPhone Jam Session!
