Diner Dash Lite (Free)
Version 1.2
REVIEW – “Please pass the potatoes… and your iPhone.”
The Holidays are a time for family to get together and share laughs, memories, stories and this year, iPhones. I had the
opportunity of hosting Thanksgiving at my house this year and while everything went smoothly (no fighting, no fires), what I didn’t expect was the amount of passing that went around – of iPhones, that is. While I expected to hear things like, “Please pass the potatoes”, instead I heard things like “Do you have this app? Let me see your phone, I will put it on there for you.”
While the fourteen of us sat around the table amongst the food and family, there was no shortage of iPhones – at one point I counted at least eight being passed around with “here, try this” while the basket of rolls was completely overlooked. But what can I say? We live in a time where technology is always present.
And if for some strange reason we forget our phones, we feel lost, naked and definitely as though we are missing out. During the time I spent cooking I missed out on the 45 “Happy Thanksgiving” messages on Facebook… I say blame Apple for making everything so accessible.
Among the many recommendations I received around the dinner table, Diner Dash Lite is my favorite. As Diane sweetly asked if I had heard of it or played it, I replied no as Tim and Jodi said in unison: “You don’t want to!” Hmmm, I thought to myself. I better check this out. Hours later I approached Diane asking what this Diner Dash was all about. She handed over the phone, explained what to do, and I was hooked – simple as that.
What I must preface about this game is that I have only played the Lite version. Although I am hooked, I haven’t forked
over the $4.99 although it is only a matter of time before I do. The lite version gives you the general idea, but you can only go through so many levels before you are just repeating yourself. But what are you repeating, you ask? Let me tell you.
Diner Dash Lite is a game of organization, scheduling and multi-tasking – everything that a Type A person like me enjoys. Shoot people and win battles? No thanks, I would rather work in a fake diner and serve people food. I mean really, that is exactly what it is. Your character has to seat people, take their order, serve them food, give them a check and clear the plates – all in a timely manner and without losing any customers. Easy, right?
It’s easy to a point but it is as addictive as smoking (that’s still addictive, right?). Later that Thanksgiving night, I found myself huddled in the corner with the iPhone charger playing Diner Dash over and over again. Tim and Jodi both shook their heads that I was so enamored with the game, and I must admit, I was a little distraught that a game so simple would capture my attention for so long – especially with guests at my house, but I have to admit, the game has me hooked.
After downloading Diner Dash Lite to my own iPhone, I discovered Wedding Dash and Cooking Dash as well. I have already played all three and accomplished all that I can in the lite versions. I guess PlayFirst (or iTunes) will be getting $14.97 of my money because who can pass up 50 levels and five different venues? Not me! PlayFirst, you found winners with these games. I am hooked. They are fun, simple and definitely entertaining. Keep up the good work.
