REVIEW – “A great game for Valentines Day!”
If you’ve scouring the AppStore looking for a quick diversion Dot Next has recently released a game for the Valentine’s Day holiday! Cupid at work puts you in control of Cupid’s bow making couples. While it may sound kind of dumb, I was pleasantly surprised
at how much fun this game really is!
When you open Cupid at Work you are taken to the main menu. There are two different modes of play: “Classic Game,” and “Extreme Game.” In the classic game there is not a time limit for each shot, while the extreme game adds a timer for every shot as well as a few other minor tweaks to make the game
more tense.
The basic idea of the game is that you will see all kinds of people walking across the screen. There are males and females of all different types from Indians to space travelers and superheroes. You’re objective is to shoot the people that match. You start with 5 arrows and lose one for every time that you miss. Along the way you can also collect more arrows and other items that will give you bonus points by touching them.
What really adds to the game is the social aspect and the fast paced game play. As you play through the game you will earn achievements that you can compare and show off to your friends. What really won me over though is the game play itself. The first few levels are pretty easy, but as you get further into the game you will have a lot more people at once, they will move faster and there will be a lot more different types of people as well.
As you play through the game you will have to shoot one more couple than in the previous round to complete your current round. The way you fire arrows is by touching the bow at the bottom of the screen and dragging it to the place you want to shoot from. Then all you have to do is touch the bow and drag your finger down and then release to fire.
The controls themselves, while they are very simple, seemed to be a little bit glitchy at first, but I was able to quickly adjust and compensate for it. My only real complaint is that the hit detection seemed to be a little suspect at times. This only drives you to try and be more precise in hitting your targets though.
To summarize, while this game is not by any means groundbreaking, it is definitely worth the $0.99 that it is going for right now. Whether you’re looking for a cute Valentine’s Day diversion, or that next game to keep you busy for a few hours, you will not be disappointed if you choose to download Cupid at Work. So check it out in the App Store using the links below!
