REVIEW – “Soul Caliber-Like Graphics in an iPhone App!”
Blades of Fury is the fighting game you have been waiting for on your iPhone or iPod Touch! At first glance $6.99 may seem like a lot to pay for an app, however, it is well worth the seven dollars once you start playing the game afontnd progressing your character(s) in story mode. The graphic-intensive app is surprisingly lag-free, even on a 3g iPhone. When the app first loads on your device, you are prompted to begin an in-game tutorial/training mode. The training mode is very in-depth and allows you to FULLY familiarize yourself with the controls. The controls are also very customizable by giving the user the immediate choice of icon or drag options and directional options of a joystick or a D-Pad. As if this game weren’t already exciting enough with four single player modes (Story, Arcade, Survival, and Practice), it is also gives multiplayer options, giving the user the ability to challenge friends over WiFi orBluetooth!
Although, I did encounter some minor connection issues in WiFi and Bluetooth mode when using 3.1 software from iPhone to iPhone, once connected, the lobby and subsequent multiplayer game play was seamless and rarely disconnected. Similar to Tekken and Soul Caliber in style, Blades of Fury features 10 different arenas in which to battle, each featuring unique color schemes and designs. The game gives you the ability to choose from a series of characters and, after beating the story mode, you can unlock up to four more each featuring their own special attacks and combos.
Overall, I was very impressed with this game and its many options. Gameloft went all out in designing the features of this game and it is well worth the $6.99 it is currently priced at in iTunes App Store.
