One of the most difficult things about budgeting is attempting to figure out what you can afford going into the future. Of course there will always be unexpected things that come up, but if you want an overview of how much money you have coming in and going out regularly, you might want to check the free Bills and Balance Forecasting app by Paul Chitoiu!

The first thing you’ll see when you open this app is the “Money” screen. It’s here that you’ll enter in all of your expenses and income. To get started all you have to do is touch the “Add” button in the upper right corner of the screen. The interface for adding items is pretty basic, but at the same time has plenty of options to set up weekly, biweekly, monthly yearly and even “Custom” intervals for them.

As you’re adding all of your financial information you can delete items if you need to in two different ways. You can use the “swipe” delete method like in the mail app, or you can touch the “Edit” button in the upper left corner on then delete using the “-” icons on the left side.

Once you get all of your information entered in there are two ways to view your financial future. If you touch the “Forecast” at the bottom of the screen you’ll see a list of all of your expenses and income that are coming up for the next couple of months. You’ll see the date, name, amount and then total balance after each transaction in the list. The second way is to touch the “Calender” button which will bring up a calendar with the balances after each day there is a transaction.

To edit an individual transaction all you have to do is touch it and it will bring up a screen where you can change the date and/or amount. You can also use this app to keep track of which bills have been paid and which ones haven’t. To mark a bill as “paid” all you have to do is go to the “Forecast” screen and use the same “swipe” to delete method.

Something important to note is that this free version of the app will only allow you to enter 6 transactions right now. While you can enable unlimited transactions through in-app purchases for just $0.99, it will be enabled for free with the addition of “iAds” once iOS 4.0 is released. The app also has “Push Reminders” to let you know when your bills are due that can be enabled for $0.99. Again, this feature will also be enabled in iOS 4 for free.

There are a few other options that will allow you to import and export financial information, as well as set a passcode so that no one else can get access to your private information. These options and more are under the “More” tab in the bottom right corner of the screen.

While a lot of financial apps make things really complicated by trying to balance everything with your account, Bill and Balance Forecasting has come up with a format that is easy to use and to follow! I was impressed with how simple it was to enter in my information and quickly get an idea of what my financial situation is going forward. If you are constantly on the go and looking for a great way to manage your financial future, you should definitely give this app a look. You won’t be disappointed!
