Babo Crash – iPhone App Review

REVIEW – “Hectic Match 3 game is loads of fun!”

There are a few things that I look for in an iPhone game.  The first thing is that it needs to be fast paced.  Most of the time when playing a game I only have a few minutes that I want to kill so I just want to get right into the action.  The second thing is the ability to jump in and out of the game quickly if necessary.  BaboCrash by Playbrains fits both of these criteria, especially the fast pace!

While a lot of match 3 games have focused more on the strategy side of things, Babo Crash is all about speed!  Not only are you timed to finish each level, but you actually get more points for matching tiles more quickly.  When you open up the game there are a few options at the menu.  There is a “How to Play” button that will teach the basics, but if you’ve played match 3 games before there is not much new here that you won’t be able to figure out by just playing.  The options menu is pretty basic, just sound fx and music toggle’s and an option to turn hints on or off.

Once you’re ready to start the game just touch “Play.”  You’ll be taken to a screen full of blocks of all different colors.  You’re objective is to match 3 blocks of any color in a row by grabbing and switching blocks.  As you get further into the game you will notice some of the “blocks” have faces on them.  These blocks each have special abilities that allow you to quickly remove a large amount of blocks.  To activate them you must match them with three blocks of their color in a row.

There are also a few other object that you’ll notice as you play.  There are bombs, which will explode taking out tons of blocks.  To get a bomb to explode you have to move it into the “blast zone” by removing blocks in its way.  A kind of unique little touch is that you can turn your device in any direction and the blocks will fall that direction when you remove some of them!  This adds a level of complexity that can be mind-boggling at times!

All in all this game feels quite polished and is a lot of fun.   I did have the game freeze on me a few times, but that was easily remedied by exiting and opening the app back up.  It was not a huge deal either because it saves your progress and starts you from the level that you left off on if you exit.  If you like fast-paced games that have an element of strategy and a lot of craziness, I’d recommend that you check out Babo Crash in the App Store today!
