REVIEW – “Speed up your browsing experience!”
When the first few browser apps got approved in the App Store there were a lot of skeptics out there and I was definitely one of them. If Mobile Safari is one of the best browsing experiences on a mobile device and it’s already built in to the OS then why would you want an alternative? If you’ve been asking these same questions then you should check out the Atomic Web Browser. Why? Not only does it offer a lot of nice features, but it does so without sacrificing performance!
When you open the browser for the first time you’ll start out on a page that is designed to answer any questions that you might have about how to use the app/what features it has available.
The main interface is similar to what most desktop browsers offer. You will see a search box and URL box at the top of the screen with a list of open tabs just below that. At the bottom of the screen there is a menu with some basic browser functions as well as access to the apps settings and a button to switch to “full-screen” mode.
Something that has always been annoying is that if you are using a browser alternative to Safari there is no way to set that browser as your “default” browser. This means that if you open a link from your email or from another app it always opens in Safari by default. Atomic Web Browser has come up with a creative solution for this problem! If you go to the settings within the app you’ll see an option to “Install Bookmarklet.” What this allows you to do is install a bookmark in Safari that when opened will open up the webpage you
are currently viewing in the Atomic Web Browser!
Another feature that I really liked is the search box. When you touch the search box you’ll see a list below the text box you’re typing in with a list of different websites to search. Not only can you use this box to search Google and Yahoo, but you can also search the current page that you are viewing! Is your favorite search engine not quite as commonly used? Well with this app it is simple to add/remove/edit the list of search engines that are available as well!
I could literally go on and on about all the different features available in this app but instead I’d like to focus on just two things that really seem to set
this browser apart from the many different options that are available in the App Store. The first thing is how customizable it is! There are all kinds of customizable options in this app from font-size and color themes all the way down to the ability to spoof other browsers and customize what buttons you have available in full screen mode (if any at all!).
The second thing that really helps set this app apart is how fast it is! I tested it by opening 3 or 4 different pages, all of them fairly complex. As I quickly switched between tabs and selected new pages to open not only was there very little slowdown, but more importantly, all of the pages would continue to download and render in the background. If you are a power user this could have a dramatic impact on the speed that you are able to browse the web!
With all the features that this app has and its performance when browsing multiple web pages I have to admit I was surprised at the price tag! Even at $1.99 I think this app is probably worth it, but if you head to the App Store right now it’s on sale for just $0.99! With that said, I’d encourage everyone that spends any significant amount of time browsing the web to check this app out. Not only is it cheap, but there is also a free “Lite” version that is just missing a few extra features like the “tabs” and “Ad Block” features. So what are you waiting for? Check it out in the App Store today!
