There are a number of different apps that help you search for places to eat, nearby gas stations or just about anything. AroundMe does all of this in one easy app.

Okay this is perhaps one of the most useful and easy to use apps on the iPhone. Now you will have to deal some adds on the top of the screen but they do not interfere at all with the app and you get the full features.

When you open the app it will ask to use your location. After that in seconds you will have access to a very up to date and complete listing of everything in the area, grouped together by categories. Need a good cup of coffee? A place to stay? How about an atm? The category listing is very complete and it even offers a separate search function in case you have a preference or even a different category idea.

Once you pick a category you are taken immediately to a listing of nearby locations that fit that category. Once you find what you need you can call the location, email the address to a friend, see it on a map, get directions or even post it your favorite social networking site. It is a great way to get everyone on the same page, quickly and easily. Plus you know exactly where you are going and how to get there yourself.

But the usefulness of this app doesn’t stop there. You can quickly see the weather for your location and even taxis in case you need a quick ride somewhere.

Then if you know the area or find someplace that you like. You can quickly add it to your favorites so that you can find it anytime you need to. It is also great if you are feeling indecisive about where you want to meet up or grab a bite to eat, with one touch you can see which of your favorite places are in the immediate area.

This app is perfect for using right where you live or anywhere that you go travel. Plus if you ever find yourself in trouble or just feel the need to give your friends useless info the app gives you your latitude and longitude down to a few yards.

Finally if someone calls you asking for directions (like your wife who doesn’t know the area she’s in but wants to find something good to eat) you can look up their location and see what is in their area as well.

This is a great all around  app with very few negatives. I will say that when you tell it to give you directions it just brings up the maps function that you have on your iphone. While this isn’t a big deal, it can be a little annoying if you find yourself wanting to go back to the app to look up something else. But for being free that is far from a big enough complaint to keep from getting it.
