REVIEW – “MySpace… The final frontier… and an awesome mobile interface!
Imagine a world where you can access information about your close friends, communicate with all kinds of people, and share pictures in real time anywhere! Well… imagine no more, MySpace can now be held in your hand anywhere! In a world where it’s getting hard to know what applications you should use to keep in touch with people, this one is definitely a must have for any MySpace user!
When you open the application for the first time this app will ask you for your MySpace login information. After the first time, it will never ask again! (Unless of course you decide to logout to login a different account.) Once you are logged in, you then are taken to the “Home” page. At the bottom of the screen there is a menu where you can quickly switch between the 5 main screens of this app: the “Home” page, the “Mail” page, the “Requests” page, the “Friends” page, and the “Photos” page.
From the “Home” page it is easy to access your profile’s comments, bulletins, blogs, friend updates or even change your profile status and mood. There is even a search feature in the upper right corner of the “Home” page to help you find friends that you want to add. The “Mail” page allows you to easily compose, read, save, and delete messages from other users. The “Requests” page shows any Friend requests that you might have and allows you to easily Accept, Deny, Block, or send a Message to them with just one click.
The “Friends” tab allows you to view all of your MySpace friends, sorted by several different methods (Top, All, Online, New, and Birthday). It is easy to send a message or comment to any of your friends here with just one touch as well. The final page you can reach from the menu at the bottom is the “Photos” page. This page shows your currently uploaded photos and allows you to quickly and easily upload more directly from your phone!
The section of the “Photos” page that allows you to upload your pictures in this this app is one of the best iPhone interfaces I have seen for a feature like this. It allows you to easily select multiple photos either from your already taken pictures, or also directly from your camera. As you add pictures, they show up as thumbnails, and once you have all of your pictures ready to go you can then upload them all at once with just one touch. This is something that I have wished on more than one occasion that Facebook would do with their app. It is so much more tedious having to upload pictures one at a time that often I give up and just upload a couple of pictures instead of all those that I was planning on.
This app has improved so much since it’s first release. I personally prefer Facebook on my computer, but I find myself sometimes wishing I could use this app to access Facebook on my phone. If you have been curious about trying this and just have not done it, for any reason, what are you waiting for? This app has taken the bar and raised it up on both ease of use and features in a social networking app.
